Dear FMIS students and parents,

My name is Mrs. Cathy Kennedy and I am an Educational Assistant at FMIS.

Originally I was born and raised in beautiful Newfoundland.  I am married and have two young, adult children who mean the world to me.

My family and I moved to Fort Mcmurray in 2005.  During my first five years in Northern Alberta I enjoyed my time as a stay-at-home mom.  At that time I also dedicated a considerable amount of time volunteering in my children’s school, assisting teachers with reading and math programs for students.  I also helped organize many other fun-filled school activities and events.  After volunteering in a school setting, I came to realize my passion was supporting children in their learning.  That’s when I decided to go back to college and begin the Educational Assistant program.  That decision is one of the best decisions I have ever made!

I started with FMIS in 2010.  Here I am, 12 years later and still going strong!

In my spare time, I love listening to music, spending time with my family and relaxing with our two dogs.

Division Notice

ATA Strike Commencing on Monday; School Closures Starting Oct 6th

As a result of the Alberta Teachers Association (ATA) rejecting a proposed deal from the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA), all FMPSD schools will be closed to students starting Monday, October 6, 2025, unless a new agreement is reached or strike action is otherwise averted. Additionally, all yellow school bus routes will be suspended for the duration of the strike.

In light of the ongoing strike, all extracurricular activities, including sports, clubs, and after-school programs, will be temporarily suspended.

As there is no definitive end date for the strike, FMPSD is unable to provide a timeline for when normal operations will resume. We will continue to provide timely updates as we receive them from the Ministry of Education and Child Care.
