About Our School

Grades Taught

Fort McMurray Islamic School (FMIS) provides Alberta Curriculum taught from an Islamic perspective by Alberta Certified teachers. At FMIS, Quran, Arabic, and Islamic Studies are taught as their own subjects, while Islamic principles are evident in all other subject areas. In 2005 FMIS joined the Fort McMurray Public School Board as an alternative program. FMIS offers Islam based education to today’s youth for tomorrow’s leaders.

The Fort McMurray Islamic School (FMIS) is committed to offering an Islamic environment demanding good teacher and student accountability. A focus on learning and practicing Islamic values along with developing academic skills and applying them in all endeavours is the hallmark of this one of a kind school.

Our mission is to develop 21st century learning skills, thinking processes, and concepts, while fostering an environment that infuses the moral understandings of the Islamic perspective.  We strive to develop the whole student (academically, spiritually, socially, emotionally, and physically) based on the teachings of the Qu’ran and Sunnah.  Our community of faith-based students will work and learn together, while preserving the dignity and values of Islam, so that they may thrive as true ambassadors of their faith and live as true Muslims in this diverse world.

At the Fort McMurray Islamic School, we aim to create productive members of a global society through academic excellence while anchoring students’ hearts and souls in a true Islamic framework by following the Qur’anic injunctions and Sunnah.
